Since the Foxhound platform entered service in 2012, General Dynamics Land Systems-United Kingdom (GDLS-UK) has delivered 400 Foxhound vehicles to the UK Armed Forces, establishing a reputation for providing best-in-class protected mobility in some of the most demanding operational environments.
Foxhound is now entering a new phase of capability development.
The British Army Headquarters has awarded GDLS-UK a two-year contract for the Foxhound Technical Demonstrator Platform (TDP). The programme will deliver demonstrator vehicles to the latest GDLS-UK build standard, showcasing both fleet upgrade options and new-build capability.
By delivering a modernised Foxhound, TDP will provide evidence and insight to inform future capability decisions.
This investment reflects continued confidence in Foxhound’s future and supports the UK’s sovereign defence skills, manufacturing expertise and protected mobility capability. Through the TDP programme, activity will explore potential improvements to the platform while helping to sustain specialist engineering knowledge in the UK.
Beyond capability, the programme supports the UK’s defence industrial base by sustaining critical engineering and technical expertise at GDLS-UK’s facility in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. In doing so, it preserves highly skilled jobs and helps maintain vital sovereign industrial capability.
Alongside platform development, GDLS-UK continues to invest in future talent through apprenticeship and graduate programmes. These programmes create pathways into skilled employment while equipping the next generation of engineers and defence professionals with the expertise needed to support evolving military technologies.
